Chester Racecourse, a Day Out at the Roodee
If you’re planning a visit to Chester or looking for an exciting day out, Chester Racecourse—also known as “The Roodee”—should be high on your list. It’s not just any racecourse either; it’s one of the oldest in the country, with a rich history that stretches back centuries. This racecourse has seen its fair share of thrilling races, celebrations, and memorable moments, making it one of the most iconic spots in Chester.
Parking is easy and at £5 for the day, a good price also. We stayed in the Roodee enclosure but the other stand are good as well. Advice is to get your tickets as soon as possible as the price escalates up to the actual day. Getting the electronic ticket was £17 & £1.25 booking fee, on the gate on the days is more expensive. The Roodee has no dress code but no controversial tops are allowed. Check the weather also as there is no cover in this area however, there are plenty of food trucks and toilets...
Travelled from S Wales and what a fabulous day we had Chester racecourse has so much to offer all staff we spoke to were extremely helpful including Mirander the safe garden leader who we bumped into several times throughout the afternoon she is a credit to the team. We had a few winners some lovely food and even the weather was kind. Definitely come back for another visit thank you for a great day.
Excellent day out at the racecourse . Weather was beautiful , staff were very nice . It was very entertaining throughout the day . However the food quality was terrible . I had bought a hot dog for £7.50 and it was awful ! I understand that it is expensive to rent a stall at the races , however the prices are not justified for the quality (or lack of) of the food . I recommend better food stalls . Drinks are rather pricey too , but it’s what is expected from events as such . Would definitely return again , really enjoyed my time .
