We arrived in Chester around 10 am, excited to spend some quality time together. Knowing my mum uses a wheelchair, I had planned a day that would be easy to navigate and still packed with fun experiences.
Our first stop was Chester Cathedral. I’d checked in advance, and I was happy to find out that the cathedral is fully accessible. We entered through the main entrance, and the staff was incredibly friendly, offering assistance and directions. The beautiful architecture and stunning stained glass left us both in awe. We took our time exploring the grounds, and the peaceful atmosphere made it a perfect start to our day. We even caught a glimpse of the LEGO® Cathedral display, which was a fun highlight for …
After visiting the cathedral, we made our way to The Rows. The area is mostly flat and easy to navigate, so it was ideal for mum. We strolled through the charming two-tiered shops, checking out the various independent boutiques. She loved the unique jewelry at Coco Boutique, and we stopped for a moment to enjoy the lively atmosphere of this historic area.
Next, we headed to The Chester Market, just a short roll away. It’s a bustling spot with a mix of food stalls and local crafts. Mum found a lovely handcrafted scarf at one of the stalls, and I treated us to some delicious pastries from a local bakery. We found a cozy spot to sit and enjoy our snacks while soaking in the vibrant energy of the market.
By now, it was time for a coffee break. We made our way to Café Nero, which is wheelchair accessible and had plenty of seating. I ordered us both lattes and a couple of biscuits, and we chatted about our favorite moments from the day so far. It was nice to take a moment to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
After our coffee, we decided to head to Chester Zoo, which is a bit further out but has excellent accessibility options. They offer wheelchair rentals at the entrance, making it easy for us to explore. The zoo was fantastic, with plenty of exhibits to see without a lot of hassle. Mum loved watching the elephants and the playful meerkats, and it was great to share in the excitement of seeing the animals together.
As our visit came to an end, we made our way back to the city center, stopping by the River Dee for a quick stroll along the water’s edge. The path was smooth and accessible, offering lovely views of the river and the historic city walls. It was a nice way to wind down our day.
We finished with an early dinner at The Architect, which was also accessible and had a warm, inviting atmosphere. We enjoyed a hearty meal, reflecting on our day and the beautiful moments we shared.
By the time we left Chester, we both felt so grateful for the time together, filled with laughter and exploration. It was a wonderful day, proving that you can have a fantastic time no matter the circumstances. We left with smiles on our faces, already planning our next visit.
